Students state opinions about the worth of some object, book , movie, group, product or idea. The writer must support judgments with reasons, evidence and examples which are based upon criteria.
Characteristics and Features:
1. Interesting beginning gets reader's attention while acquainting him with subject to be judged.
2. Standards for judgment (criteria) must be evident.
3. Writer states his/her opinions and explains reason(s) for judgments.
4. Writer gives convincing examples which support opinion(s)
5. Central focus of essay is writer's reasons for opinions.
6. Writing is clear, in logical order, and enthusiastic.
7. Strong conclusion reinforces writer's judgment and gives a sense of closure.
