Expository Essay
An Expository Essay answers a question.
Characteristics of an Expository Essay:
- An Expository Essay answers an essential question.
- An Expository Essay explores different aspects of the question
and possible answers.
- Words which could cause confusion are defined.
- Examples provide clarity.
- The essential question is restated, either as part of the title
or part of the introductory paragraph.
- The reader should be able to follow the author's thinking process
as the reason for the answer is developed throughout the essay.
- The author presents himself/herself as an authority. It is
acceptable to question ideas, but the final answer must be posed as the
correct one.
