FOUND POEM

This procedure will allow you to create a 4 stanza unrhymed poem. It requires that you have read a story, book, play, etc. and the title of the poem will be the same as the written piece to which you are responding.

1. Scan the piece. Write memorable phrases and single words from the story on a piece of scratch paper. There need not be any order to them. Make sure you have 30 or so. Some of the phrases and single words may be ones you do not wish to use.

2. Group the words and phrases into four categories, each category with a similar theme or idea.

3. Write the words and phrases from the categories into poem form. One category should be one stanza. Proof read for thought and for spelling. Put a comma at the end of each line.

4. Title the poem. It may have the same title as the written work you are responding to.

5. If there is time, decorate the page the poem is written on. This will make a display piece.

6. Put your name on the poem.
