WMS GATE Identification Procedures

The process for identification of gifted and talented students is ongoing and thorough. Given the mobility and demographics of our district, our identification criteria include measures that are not English language or verbal dependent. Most nominations take place in the third grade but may occur at any time. Students may be nominated for screening at the end of third grade by a teacher, principal or parent. A thorough referral form (GATES - Gifted and Talented Evaluation Scales) is completed by the nominator, and a student case study profile is completed by the site GATE coordinator.
