Homework Helps 2002-3 - Week 9 -
October 21-25, 2002READING: Read a minimum of 20 minutes each night including weekends. Read a book of your choice approved by your teacher. Due November 4, 2002.
VOCABULARY AND SPELLING:
Periods 1-2. Choose words from the book you are currently reading. Define them according to the context of your book, and copy the sentence in which it appears. Prepare for a spelling test Friday. For a grade of "C" the standard is 10 words written correctly; "B" is 13 words; "A" 15 words. Completed homework is half the grade.
Periods 4-5: Do Unit 4. Basic: atlas, mercury, narcissus, psyche, odyssey, museum, hypnosis, Fahrenheit, czar, pasteurize, fate, jovial, tantalize, hygiene, mentor, psychiatrist, mosaic, Celsius, fury, galvanized. Review: boycott, silhouette, Braille, leotard, saxophone. Challenge: iridescent, nemesis, thespian, epicure, gargantuan. Due Friday 10/25/02.
JUDICIAL PACKET: What happens when the judicial system does not do its job? What changes were incorporated into the Constitution as a result of the Salem Witchcraft Trials?
EXPOSITORY ESSAY: "Where in Animal Farm could the animals have taken action to retain their freedom?" Consider the possible effects of the animals' actions at different points in the story. Then choose the one point at which the animals had given up so much that their freedom was forever and irrevocably gone. First Rough Draft due 10/24/04.
COMMUNITY SERVICE: Each eighth grade student at Windsor Middle School is required to do 5 hours of community service as a part of the social studies curriculum. Some of you may have already done it; many opportunities will avail themselves soon. Be on the lookout for these opportunities. If you cannot find something suitable, see your teacher before winter break. It is due with a report the second week of January 2003.
FOUND POEM: Instructions on separate paper. Due 01/22/02.
END OF THE QUARTER: 10/25/02. If there are corrections to be made to your grade, work to be redone, or work made-up from absences, it must be completed by Friday 10\25/02.
