Homework Helps 2002-3 - Week 12 - November 12-15, 2002

READING: Read a minimum of 20 minutes each night including weekends. Read a book of your choice approved by your teacher; due November 4, 2002. Book report due 11/14. Read House on Mango Street; each chapter is to be accompanied by a thumbnail sketch and one sentence about it. Make a mandala for Esperanza. Due 11/22/02. The essay question for House on Mango Street, The Diary of Anne Frank, and Never Forget is, "What personal characteristics help someone grow up mentally healthy?"

VOCABULARY AND SPELLING:
Periods 1-2. Choose words from the book you are currently reading. Define them according to the context of your book, and copy the sentence in which it appears. Prepare for a spelling test Friday. For a grade of "C" the standard is 10 words written correctly; "B" is 13 words; "A" 15 words. Completed homework is half the grade.
Periods 4-5: Unit 8 due Friday 11/15/02. There will be a test 11/15. Basic: chronology, terminology, catalog, technology, geology, zoology, logic, biology, apology, psychology, dialogue, sociology, ecology, meteorology, theology, anthology, astrology, analogy, mythology, trilogy. Review: fragment, professor, assistant, corrode, analyze. Challenge: archaeology, logistics, etymology, prologue, epilogue. Do: pp.54, 55, 56, 57 (Proof for Spelling only), and 59. Completed homework is half the grade.

MAP PROJECT: Begin this in class; finish at home. We will set a due date when everyone has a map outline completed.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: Each eighth grade student at Windsor Middle School is required to do 5 hours of community service as a part of the social studies curriculum. It is due with a report the second week of January 2003.

BOOK REPORT: You have read a book of your choice. Choose a project to do about that book and present it to the class. Directions are on a separate sheet of paper. Due 11/14/02.
