LIBRARY CARD: Have a Sonoma County library card in your name for use in research, internet access, and reading. Due 8/29/08.
READING: Read a minimum of 20 minutes each night including weekends. You will need to spend this time to finish the required literature books and books of your choice for book reports. Turn in summer reading log. Due 8/19/08. This week read a book of your choice.
VOCABULARY AND SPELLING: You will have a vocabulary/spelling assignment each week. Define each word as it applies to the United States Constitution, and write an original sentence with each one. It is due on Friday, August 24, and there will be a test. The following words are from the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States: constitution, union, justice, establish, domestic, tranquility, defense, promote, general, secure, liberty, posterity, ordain, common, ourselves. Prepare for a vocabulary test Friday 8/22/08. For a grade of "C" the standard is 10 words written correctly; "B" is 13 words; "A" 15 words. Completed homework is half the grade. AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL INCIDENT: 5 Paragraph essay. First rough draft due 8/22/08.
Second rough draft due 8/25/08. Final due 8/29/08.
EXTRA CREDIT: Visit a replica of Colombus' ship
the Niña at the Petaluma Turning Basin August 22-26, 2008. Create a
1 page report; agree on the format with Mrs. Sterling before
submitting.
