Homework Helps 2008 - 2009 - Week 4                                                         Periods 1, 2, 4

September 2 - 5, 2008

READING: Read a minimum of 20 minutes each night including weekends. You will need to spend this time to finish the required literature books and books of your choice for book reports.  Due 8/29/08.  This week read a book of your choice.

VOCABULARY AND SPELLING:  Words: hyperbole, imagery, idiom, inference, irony, mood, motivation, narrator, nonfiction, plot, protagonist, structure, suspense, theme, tone.  Define each word and write an original sentence with each one; include an icon to help you remember the definition. It is due with the vocabulary test Friday 8/29/08. For a grade of "C" the standard is 10 words written correctly; "B" is 13 words; "A" 15 words. Completed homework is half the grade. VOCABULARY AND SPELLING (Plan B)

AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL INCIDENT : 5 Paragraph essay.  Staple the three drafts together with the final draft on top.   Due 9/5/08.

MIND MAPS :  Chapter 2.  Due with the test 9/9/08.

BIG MAP PROJECT:  Trace the outline of the United States, and Alaska and Hawaii plus FIVE states of your choice onto a large piece of art paper.  Take this home until everyone has his/her map traced.
