Homework Helps 2008 - 2009 - Week 5                                               Periods 1, 2, 4
September 8 - 12, 2008

READING: Read a minimum of 20 minutes each night including weekends. Begin to ead The Giver.  Keep a nightly reading log of the pages you have read.  Have your parent sign it before you turn it in. Due 9/26/08. 

VOCABULARY AND SPELLING:  List each word and derivitive words from social studies chapter 2.  Words: settlement, explorers, New World, unsuspicious, conquistadors, slavery, pueblo, presidio, missionaries, trappers, coureurs de bois, Northwest Passage, malaria, councilors, animosity.  List a definition, original sentence, and an icon for each word.  It is due on Friday, September 12, and there will be a test. For a grade of "C" the standard is 10 words written correctly; "B" is 13 words; "A" 15 words. Completed homework is half the grade.  VOCABULARY AND SPELLING (Plan B)

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: 5 Paragraph essay. Staple all three drafts together with the final draft on top.  Final due 9/5/08.

MIND MAPS :  Chapter 2.  Due with the test 9/11/08.

BIG MAP PROJECT:  Trace the outline of the United States, and Alaska and Hawaii plus FIVE states of your choice onto a large piece of art paper.  Due 9/25/08.
