Homework Helps 2008 - 2009 - Week 10                                                   Periods 1, 2, 4
October 13 - 17, 2008

READING: Read a minimum of 20 minutes each night including weekends. Begin to read The Giver.  Keep a nightly reading log of the pages you have read.  Have your parent sign it before you turn it in. Due 10/10/08. 

 VOCABULARY AND SPELLING:  List each word and derivitive words from social studies Chapter 5.  Words:  Tea Act, First Continental Congress, Boston Massacre, Paul Revere, Battle of Lexington and Concord, Sons of Liberty, Townshend Acts, Quartering Act, boycott, Patrick Henry, Captain John Parker, Boston Tea Party, Intolerable Acts, Samuel Adams, Minutemen.  List a definition, original sentence, and an icon for each word.  Due on Friday, October 10, and there will be a test. For a grade of "C" the standard is 10 words written correctly; "B" is 13 words; "A" 15 words. Completed homework is half the grade.  VOCABULARY AND SPELLING(Plan B)

The Giver MURAL: Create a mural displaying the theme of "Growing up" from The Giver.  What gives Jonas the courage to decide to change his life and in doing so, change his community?  On a separate sheet explain each symbol and its relation to the other symbols in one or two sentences each. Due October 16, 2008. Period 2 only. 

AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR JOURNAL PROJECT:  Choose a person from United States History 1763 - 1787.  Create a report about that person's life; present the report as a first person journal,   newspaper , or series of letters.
