READING: Read a minimum of 20 minutes each night including weekends.  Read your Accelerated Reader books.  For the language arts final read Nightjohn.  Over the winter holiday, read a book of your choice . 

VOCABULARY AND SPELLING: Define each word as it applies to the Constitution of the Untied States and Chapter 8. WORDS: bicameral, bill, Vice President, Senate, House of Representatives, impeach, trial, ratify, popular sovreignty, ex post facto, writ of habeus corpus , corruption of blood, Speaker of the House, Article I, commerce. Define, give the page where it is used, and write an original sentence with each one; also draw an icon for each. Due with the test on Friday. For a grade of "C" the standard is 10 words written correctly; "B" is 13 words; "A" 15 words. Completed homework is half the grade.  VOCABULARY AND SPELLING(Plan B)

EXPOSITORY ESSAY: What makes a resilient person? Answer this question in a 5-7 paragraph essay choosing examples from Diary of Anne Frank or other books you have read, movies and TV shows you have seen, and real life events.  Use quotes to justify your thesis. Second rough draft due 12/2/08.  Final draft due 12/10/08.

PREAMBLE OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES: We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.  Memorize by 12/16/08.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT:  Each eighth grade student at Windsor Middle School provides 5 or more hours of public service as a part of the social studies grade.  Due December 12, 2008.
